A Carpe Diem Snapshot:
True, this is not the most exciting Carpe Diem snapshot I've posted, but I chose the save this visual memory of the "altar" that 7-year-old Cordelia spontaneously created this morning as it captures the spiritual instincts and creativity that are characteristic of this age (as reflected in the pedagogy of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd). Also, each object in the photo possesses a back story and symbolic value that Cordelia is only partially aware of-- the Cedar of Lebanon from the shrine of Our Lady of Lebanon, Minerva's wise owl Christmas tree ornament from Santa Maria in Trastevere, the icon of St. Lazarus from his tomb on the island to Cyprus, a prayer card of the icon of Mary from St. Peter's square, a bottle of holy water given to Cordelia by dear friends when she was in the hospital, the Divine Mercy image and St. Faustina from Santo Spirito church, the top of a mint tin with the cross of St. Andrew from a trip to Scotland last October.... This single snapshot captures a plethora of stories and significance...
Liturgical: Wednesday of the Second Week of Easter "God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him." Jn 3:16-21
Sanctoral: Fulbert (960-1029), Bishop of Chartres, France; Michael De Sanctis, Spain +1625 Trinitarian. One of the patron saints of Cancer patients.
Human: 191 BC – the Temple of Great Mother (Magna Mater) on the Palatine Hill and the temple of Iuventus (Youth) near Circus Maximus were dedicated.
Natural: 2019- Astronomers released the first-ever image of a black hole, which is in the centre of the massive galaxy M87. A few days ago, it was announced that the black hole at the center of a newly discovered quasar (the active and luminous core of a galaxy), possibly the brightest object in the universe, may be devouring "a sun a day"! The quasar was spotted in 1980 but mistakenly classified as a star.
