A Carpe Diem Snapshot:

The final Art and Architecture presentation of personal crest designs just concluded, at a soiree by the gazebo, before the wind and drizzle drove us indoors. It's my favorite class event of the semester, when we really get to know the people we've been living with all these many weeks.

Liturgical: Wednesday of Holy Week

The Lord God has given me the tongue of a teacher, that I may know how to sustain the weary with a word. Morning by morning he wakens—wakens my ear to listen as those who are taught. The Lord God has opened my ear, and I was not rebellious, I did not turn backward.

Sanctoral: Saint Bernadette Soubirous, France +1879

During her life, Bernadette suffered much. She was hounded by the public as well as by civic officials until at last she was protected in a convent of nuns. Five years later, she petitioned to enter the Sisters of Notre Dame of Nevers. After a period of illness she was able to make the journey from Lourdes and enter the novitiate. But within four months of her arrival she was given the last rites of the Church and allowed to profess her vows. She recovered enough to become infirmarian and then sacristan, but chronic health problems persisted. She died on April 16, 1879, at the age of 35. Bernadette Soubirous was canonized in 1933.
