A Carpe Diem Snapshot:

Look who's back! On Holy Saturday I posted a photo of this same chapel at the Basilica of San Pancrazio but the tabernacle was empty and the crucifix was shrouded in purple fabric. Interestingly, I had never observed the Resurrection from the tomb carving on the face of the wooden altar, an appropriate detail to notice for my first visit post Easter.

Liturgical: Wednesday in the Octave of Easter “Were not our hearts burning within us while he spoke to us on the way and opened the Scriptures to us?”

Sanctoral: Benedict the Moor +1589

Human: 1513 - Spanish explorer Juan Ponce de Leon landed in Florida. He had sighted the land the day before. Early chroniclers say he chose the name as it was Easter Sunday, then popularly referred to in Spain as “Pascua Florida,” or Feast of Flowers. Some modern historians believe it was named after its biodiversity of flowers.

Quote: "The secret of the road to Emmaus is all here: even contrary to appearances, we continue to be loved, and God will never cease to love us. God will always walk with us, always, even in the most painful moments, even in the ugliest moments, even in the moments of defeat: the Lord is there. And this is our hope. Let us go ahead with this hope! Because He is next to us and walks with us, always!" -Pope Francis, General Audience 2017
