Today's Carpe Diem Snapshot: On Fridays throughout the liturgical season of Lent, today being the first of these, there is an ancient penitential tradition of retracing the steps of Christ on his march to Calvary called the Stations of the Cross. Usually this is done within a church but there are, particularly in Spain, elaborate outdoor processions, the most famous of which is in Seville. For this first Friday, we went to a unique stations of the Cross outdoor stairway that links the Spanish Franciscan church of San Pietro in Montorio and Spanish Academy on the Janiculum hill with the neighborhood of Trastevere below.
