Calendar Class of February 4, 2024

Today's Carpe Diem Snapshot:

This snapshot encapsulates my experiences of attempting to enjoy museum visits with my children! On the first Sunday of every month all public museums in Rome are free of charge, and so, today, following Mass at the Domus Australia, we dragged the unwilling children a short distance to the Palazzo Massimo alle Terme. My main goal of the visit was to introduce the girls to the painted garden from the dining room of the Villa of Livia. They at least appreciated that tranquil scene, if not the history of the Roman calendar exhibit (I, however, was thrilled at that unexpected discovery and shall be writing more about this soon!).

Sanctoral: Andrea Corsini, Florence, Italy +1374 Carmelite. Invoked against riots and civil disorder.

Human: 211 AD--After the death of Septimius Severus, his sons Geta and Caracalla began to rule together, ending with the murder of Geta and his damnatio memoriae, which can be seen in the erasure of his name from the Arch of Septimus Severus in the Roman Forum.

Natural: Sundays in the park, a Roman tradition.

Quote: "If in bed I say, "When shall I arise?" then the night drags on;

I am filled with restlessness until the dawn. My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle..." -Jb 7:1-4, 6-7
