Today's Carpe Diem Snapshot: Benvenuti a Roma, 2024 Spring semester students! Today we began our auspicious day on the Janiculum hill, named after the Roman god Janus, who presided over the beginnings and endings of all kinds of adventures. It was here on the Janiculum that the augers would interpret the auspices while observing the flight of birds over the Eternal City. We explored the layered history of this, the second tallest hill in Rome, followed by the Porta San Pancrazio (home of the Museo della Repubblica Romana), the Bar Gianicolo, the American Academy in Rome, the Fontanone dell' Acqua Paola, and San Pietro in Montorio.
