A Carpe Diem Snapshot:

Valentina "carpe diemed" this morning and got out on the water, despite the rain, which just won't stop falling this summer. I love the relationship the girls are forming with the water, and the tolerance they are building towards creatures that had previously scared them (even the water snakes!). As the raindrops increased, Valentina shouted up to me, "It looks just like the frogs jumping out of the water in 'Prince of Egypt'!" It's the perspective of an artist, and a budding naturalist. It reminds me of Charlotte Mason's "science of relations", as well as the first reading from the prophet Amos (my Dad's middle name) in today's Mass readings.

“What sort of man is this, whom even the winds and the sea obey?”

Bishop Barron's Gospel reflection today.

Sanctoral: Sts. Processus & Martinian, Martyrs; St. Swithin, Bishop; St. Bernardino Realino, Priest; Oliver Plunkett, Bishop

Human:

1776- After a dramatic all-night ride, Delaware delegate Caesar Rodney arrived just in time to cast the decisive vote approving the Declaration of Independence.

2016-- Romanian-born Jewish writer Elie Wiesel, who won the 1986 Nobel Peace Prize largely for his works that provide a sober yet passionate testament of the destruction of European Jewry during World War II, died at age 87.

The Writer's Almanac edition today.

All the history of today, if you need more.

Natural: Today it feels- and looks- more like a misty day in October rather than early July! So, if Michigan continues to be fickle like this, it's time to research how to improve circulation, even during the summer! Here is an in-depth video. Is it raynaud's or just poor circulation?

Italian Word of the Day: Barba (beard)
