A Carpe Diem Snapshot:

This morning I snapped this photo of the cat lounging on top of all my summertime to-do lists and idealistic plans, curled up to a large cardboard box full of unopened mail and unpaid bills. The way the kitten is looking at me seemed to suggest the futility of all my re-planning as we near the very end of July. But there is hope, there is always hope for progress and change while we are still alive. But, the cat might retort, we really shouldn't kill ourselves in the process. We should schedule in cat naps on a regular basis. And we should stop to look up at the sky and the trees every now and then. In fact, yesterday we lost a great old oak right next to the house, that suddenly split in two and went crashing down upon our neighbors kayaks, paddleboards, and pontoon. Thanks be to God no one was in the path of its fall, but it certainly was a reminder that what is here today may very well not be here tomorrow. But while there is life, and while there is summer, there is still time to savor it, and if you are one of Jesus' best friends, as in the case of Lazarus, you might just get a second chance...

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love.

Bishop Barron's reflections today.

Sanctoral: Today the Church celebrates the Memorial of Sts. Martha, Mary and Lazarus. In the household of Bethany the Lord Jesus experienced the family spirit and friendship, and for this reason the Gospel of John states that he loved them. Martha generously offered him hospitality, Mary listened attentively to his words and Lazarus promptly emerged from the tomb at the command of the One who humiliated death.
