A Carpe Diem Snapshot:

The flower fairy/Spring sprite/resident comedian/tableau vivant model is all decked out for the St Patrick's Day festivities here! I spent the whole evening dancing, and didn't manage to snap a single photo besides this one's precious pose.

Liturgical: Fifth Sunday of Lent I will place my law within them and write it upon their hearts; I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Station church: San Pietro in Vaticano

Sanctoral: St. Patrick, apostle to Ireland +464

Human: A history of St. Patrick's Day traditions

*The festival of Liberalia took place in Rome today. It was dedicated to the Roman deity – Liber, whose cult came from central Italy. His cult was initially associated with horses and grain. Later, Liber was identified with the Greek Dionysus. The day of Liberalia was a time of free speech and the entry of 15-16 year old boys into the world of adults.

*45 BC – the battle of Munda took place. It was the last battle fought by Julius Caesar against the conservative republicans. After this victory and the death of Titus Labienus and Gneius Pompeius the Younger (older son of Pompey the Great), Caesar could return to Rome and rule as a dictator. The subsequent murder of Caesar began the process of ending the Roman Republic with the rule of his nephew – Augustus as the first Roman emperor.

Natural: What would St. Patrick eat?

Quote: "May the strength of God pilot us, may the wisdom of God instruct us, may the hand of God protect us, may the word of God direct us." - St. Patrick
