Calendar Class of March 18, 2024

A Carpe Diem Snapshot:

It was a very international St. Patrick's Day party at the villa Magnolia last night! Although we lacked the typical American trappings of beer and shamrock shakes, the global flavor seemed a fitting way to celebrate the legacy of a Roman citizen born in Britain, then taken in slavery to Ireland, later trained to be a priest in France and Rome, who then finally returned to Ireland a bishop of the universal Catholic church. Our new Italian friends, pictured above, led us in international folk dances from Ireland, Naples, France, Spain, the U.S., Romania, Israel, Russia, and Macedonia, among others!

Liturgical: Monday of the Fifth Week of Lent “Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.”

Station church: San Crisogono in Trastevere

Sanctoral: Cyril, Bishop of Jerusalem (315-386). One of the fathers of the Church. 23 of St. Cyril's Catechetical Lectures and his Procatechesis are still available to read.

Human: 37 AD– Caligula was recognized by the Senate as the emperor after the death of Tiberius.

Natural: Caligula's gardens unearthed in Rome-- the Horti Lamiati on the Esquiline hill

Quote: “Let us then, my brethren, endure in hope. Let us devote ourselves, side-by-side with our hoping, so that the God of all the universe, as he beholds our intention, may cleanse us from all sins, fill us with high hopes from what we have in hand, and grant us the change of heart that saves. God has called you, and you have your calling.” ― St. Cyril of Jerusalem
