A Carpe Diem Snapshot:

"And a little child shall lead them." -Isaiah 11:6

These three photos present a sequence of events this morning. Valentina was suddenly struck with the realization that she didn't get to confession this Lent as planned, and that these were her final hours to get to a confessional before the Easter vigil. So we set off for the nearby church of San Pancrazio to find a priest who spoke English. It was a shot in the dark but I had tracked one down there before, so we set off with hope. I found the parish priest, Padre Ernesto, busily directing the flower bearers at the altar and he graciously went to fetch a priest for us. Somehow the word got out, because a nun and two elderly lay women came out of the woodwork and started lining up in front of the confessional before the priest even arrived. First we prepared in the Blessed Sacrament chapel, before a shrouded cross and an empty tabernacle. Then the ladies in line kindly let us go before them. Finally, we celebrated with gelato, because "both life and death are sweet to those who seek the Good," in the words of my new motto explained in Thursday's post. Buona Pasqua!

Liturgical: Holy Saturday- Easter Vigil For if we have grown into union with him through a death like his, we shall also be united with him in the resurrection.

We know that our old self was crucified with him, so that our sinful body might be done away with, that we might no longer be in slavery to sin. For a dead person has been absolved from sin. If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him.

Station Church: San Giovanni di Laterano- the final scrutiny of the catechumens

Sanctoral: Peter Regalado, Spain +1456 Possessed the ability to bilocate.

Human: 2023-- Key figures in Artificial Intelligence including Elon Musk and Steve Wozniak sign open letter warning the race to develop AI systems is out of control, asking for suspension for at least six months.

Natural: What kind of tomb would Jesus' body be resting in on Holy Saturday? A full investigation here.

Quote: “Today a great silence reigns on earth, a great silence and a great stillness.  A great stillness because the King is asleep.  The earth trembled and is still because God has fallen asleep in the flesh and has raised up all who have slept since the world began . . . ‘I order you, O sleeper, to awake.  I did not create you to be a prisoner in hell.  Rise from the dead, for I am the life of the dead.’”
