Calendar Class of March 5, 2024

A Carpe Diem Snapshot:

Who was Darius? That was the question I asked today (Monday), after waking up with this name in my mind. Everything else from the previously vivid dream I had disappeared except for the name "Darius", which continued echoing in my mind for at least an hour. While I do not believe that every single dream is inherently meaningful, the name was evocative of something that eluded me. I had a vague memory of learning about a certain Darius I in Ancient History, probably back in 7th grade, as well as some kind of Biblical association. Since Calendar Class is all about providence-led learning and chasing rabbit trails, I of course did some research about the name Darius in both historical and biblical contexts. The first article gave me the meaning of the name as "Lord", while another site explained the name's Persian etymology as being "holding firm the good". Fascinating! As far as famous Dariuses that I may have heard of that somehow emerged from my subconscious go, the most likely candidates are Darius the Great, Darius the Mede, and Darius the friend of St. Augustine (who I only consciously heard about an hour ago when a dinner guest told me of a letter addressed to a certain Darius by St. Augustine). Today's dreammay have been insignificant and forever lost to memory, but now I will never forget the name Darius and how all things are connected in one immense, invisible net.
