A Carpe Diem Snapshot:

Just outside the frame on the right side of this photo is a mandolin playing musician at Ristorante Meo Patacca in Trastevere, where the colorful roaming band inspired these "newlyweds" to charm everyone with their spontaneous dancing. The band of older Romans and their traditional Italian songs are what make this restaurant such a memorable experience. The house red wine and savory meat dishes are also recommended. I'm so glad we ended up dining at this place with our Michigan friends the other night, and even happier that our friends gave all the patrons there this "Roman holiday" snapshot.

Liturgical: Memorial of Saint Athanasius, Bishop and Doctor of the Church

“As the Father loves me, so I also love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love."

Sanctoral: Athanasius (295-373), Bishop of Alexandria, Doctor of the Church, Defender of the Faith against Arianism at the Council of Nicea in 325.

Human: National Day of Prayer (USA); Death of Leonardo da Vinci by intracerebral hemorrhage in France – 1519

Natural: After stormy skies for the first two days this May, I find myself wondering "what will the weather be like this month in Rome?" This is particularly important to know as we will be exploring the Eternal City all month with a VIP arriving on Saturday...
