Calendar Class of May 26, 2024

A Carpe Diem Snapshot:

This year, we just caught the tail end of the brief but beautiful month of May in Michigan, with the last of the lilacs and the season's new crop of robins, the Michigan state bird. This wide-eyed mother robin made a nest in a new shed we are building, and she has held her ground despite the on-going construction on the roof above her head. What was even more of a surprise was that she returned to her nest and hatchlings after Cordelia scooped up the tiny creatures in her little hands to proudly present to me! Apparently, I hadn't covered the do-not-touch-anything-tiny-in-a-nest rule with my youngest offspring, but fortunately this mother was unperturbed and went back to caring for them as if nothing had happened. It reminded me of this quote from one of yesterday's saints of the day that caught my attention: "Let my soul, simple as a dove, fly to You to build its nest in Your heart." --St. Mary Magdelene de' Pazzi
