A Carpe Diem Snapshot:

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him."

Bishop Barron's Gospel reflections today.

Sanctoral: The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross was observed in Rome before the end of the seventh century. It commemorates the recovery of the Holy Cross, which had been placed on Mount Calvary by St. Helena and preserved in Jerusalem, but then had fallen into the hands of Chosroas, King of the Persians. The precious relic was recovered and returned to Jerusalem by Emperor Heralius in 629.

Human: On this day in 1320, Dante died from malaria, just months after completing Paradiso, the third and final part of Divine Comedy.

The Writer's Almanac edition today.

Natural: Python hunting in Florida, anyone?
