A Carpe Diem Snapshot:

Home is where the heart is-- and mine has water, woods, and these little women. Back in Michigan today after our trip to Florida, we were delighted to see the new parish directory portrait had arrived but, unfortunately, the other fifty percent of the family was in Rome when the photos were being taken. Being registered as members of a parish family is also a way to declare one place in the world as our official home, no matter where life takes us.

Jesus and his disciples set out for the villages of Caesarea Philippi. Along the way he asked his disciples, "Who do people say that I am?" They said in reply, "John the Baptist, others Elijah, still others one of the prophets." And he asked them, "But who do you say that I am?" Peter said to him in reply, "You are the Christ." Then he warned them not to tell anyone about him. (Mark 8:27-30).

Sanctoral: The Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows, which is ordinarily celebrated today, is superseded by the Sunday liturgy. Devotion to the Seven Sorrows of Our Lady has its roots in Sacred Scripture and in Christian piety, which always associates the Blessed Mother with her suffering Son. Today's feast was introduced by the Servites in order to intensify devotion to Our Lady's Sorrows. In 1817 Pius VII—suffering grievously in exile but finally liberated by Mary's intercession—extended the feast to the universal Church. The liturgy of the Mass also includes the option to recite or sing the Sequence, Stabat Mater before the Gospel.
